DON'T
SHIV-A-GIT-BLUE
1980
Blues Editorial
By
Walker Jackson
My
name is John Q. Public.
I'm
mad enough to spit.
The
Country's got big worries.
And
most don't shiv-a-git.
It's
time to change our thinking.
It's
time to stop our faking
Time
has come to profit from the past.
Get
off your high horse.
Hear
out my editorial blast.
The
year is nineteen eighty,
And
politics abounds
It's
either Ronalds star ship,
Or
the Jimmy Carter clowns
The
voters came out swinging.
Their
mandate clearly ringing.
Hope
incumbents all across the land.
Heard
voters saying.
Don't
stick your head back in the sand.
To
all you Kat's at Uncle.
It's
time to heed our stand.
It's
Gov'ment for the people.
And
not for good old Dan.
Our
Nation needs direction.
Some
leadership selection.
Time
has come to liven up the crew.
Standup,
be counted.
Long
live the Red, White and Blue.
OPEC
kept up the pressure.
They
up'd the price for oil.
Their
greed made John Q. public.
So
hot that we would boil.
We
opted for conservation.
We
chose self preservation.
Time
again to sacrifice anew.
Goodbye
to joy rides
Sheiks
shove your crude back down the
flue
We
now have the K-cars.
The
Lynx and Spirit too.
And
gone are the guzzlers.
At
last Detroit came thru.
Although
Big Four blew it.
There's
no point cussin' Detroit.
Chances
are you'll lose your next payday.
Buy
your next auto made in the good
old USA.
His
name is Ayatolla.
He's
a senile holy man.
He
wills our men held hostage.
In
that strange Islamic Land.
His
rationales pathetic.
The
world seems sympathetic.
Love
one's try hard to understand.
Pray
for each hostage.
Pray
their safe passage from Iran.
The
Nation loves hot gossip.
I
can't let this slip by.
So
here's the Bendix's caper.
Mary
C., Bill Evan's tie.
It
seems that Bill's devotion.
And
Mary's quick promotion.
Caused
doubts and Mary chose to blow.
Bill
caused the big waves.
Bill
rocked the corp'rate status quo.
The
Fed kept up its vigil.
On
the Nation's cash supply.
It
pushed the cost of money.
To
an all historic high.
They
planned to slow inflation.
But
their crunch caused devastation.
Homes
and cars were priced beyond our
means,
More
unemployment.
Woe
to these bleak financial scenes.
The
"Bear" stomped cross
the border.
And
copped Afghanistan.
Iraq
cranked up its army.
And
almost took Iran.
At
home the Country sizzled.
And
Mt. Saint Helen Missile'd.
Phil's
and Yank's put on a super show.
And
Pole's struck a blow.
For
hope and freedom from Moscow
My
name is John Q. Public.
I'm
signing off for now.
I
hope you dug my message.
And
Shiv-a-git by now.
It's
time for sober choices.
And
time for spoken voices.
Time
has come to turn it all around.
God
bless our Country.
God
help us turn this mess around.

I
wrote this in 1980. Some things
never change, but I think after
911 we're starting to shiv-a-git.
